Caneel Bay, a Rosewood Resort

North Shore Rd
St John, U.S. Virgin Islands 00830

Conceived by mega millionaire Laurance S. Rockefeller in 1956, the Caneel Bay, a Rosewood Resort, located on St. John Island, has long been one of the premier resorts in the Caribbean Sea. Guests come here to disconnect in the pristine, natural surroundings and low key luxury. Seven white sandy beaches border 170 acres where the hotels accommodations blend into the landscape. Conspicuously absent from the resort are digital distractions and the furious pace of the outside world.
The Caneel Bay Resort features an outdoor pool, 11 tennis courts, a fitness center and water sports equipment and programs. Guests let go of stress at the Self Centre through yoga, meditation and even star gazing; by taking walks through the gardens, sipping afternoon tea and watching feature movies. Children have fun with supervised arts and crafts activities and Turtle Town, where kids age three to 12 hear pirate tales, make treasure maps and dance to the Caribbean beat. Dining options include Turtle Bay, serving classical and creative American cuisine; the Equator, serving fresh seafood and grilled meats prepared with classic and Caribbean flair; and the Caneel Beach Terrace, serving lunch buffets in an open air dining room just a few steps from the shoreline. The Wine Room seats up to 10 for private seven course dinners.

Air conditioned guestrooms are flanked by dense gardens and feature large windows and balconies or terraces with cushioned wrought iron patio furniture. The dcor includes wood, rattan and bamboo furniture, tile floors with straw mat area rugs and wooden louvers that guests can open to trade wind breezes. Guests rest peacefully on extra thick custom made mattresses covered in Egyptian cotton sheets with down and feather pillows. Amenities include thick towels and bath sheets, complimentary bottles of rum and water, Lady Primrose toiletries and straw slippers. Beach towels and umbrellas are in each room for trips to the beach.
